Accessibility Policy

Synomos

Effective date: [insert date]

1. Statement of Commitment

Synomos is committed to treating all people in a way that respects their dignity and independence. We believe in integration and equal opportunity, and we are committed to identifying, preventing, and removing barriers to accessibility in a timely manner. Synomos operates as a sole proprietorship providing consulting and advisory services in Ontario, and this policy is made under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 and Ontario Regulation 191/11, and operates alongside the Ontario Human Rights Code.

2. Accessible Customer Service

We will:

  • Serve persons with disabilities in a manner that respects their dignity and independence.
  • Permit the use of assistive devices, and permit support persons and service animals to accompany a client or visitor wherever we provide services, except where excluded by law.
  • Give notice of any planned or unexpected disruption to a service or facility usually used by persons with disabilities, including the reason for the disruption and any alternatives available.

3. Training

We will train everyone who deals with the public or other third parties on our behalf, and everyone involved in developing our policies, on the requirements of Ontario's accessibility laws and on the Human Rights Code as it relates to people with disabilities, appropriate to their role. Training will be provided as soon as practicable and whenever this policy changes.

4. Information and Communication

We will:

  • Provide this policy, and information about our services, in an accessible format or with communication supports on request, in a timely manner and at no additional cost.
  • Synomos will take reasonable steps to ensure that its website and web content conform with the applicable accessibility requirements under Ontario Regulation 191/11.
  • Accept feedback by phone, email, or mail, and provide accessible formats or communication supports for that feedback process on request.

5. Employment

Where Synomos engages an employee, articling student, or contractor, we will:

  • Notify applicants that accommodations are available during recruitment and assessment.
  • Inform staff of our policies for supporting employees with disabilities, including job accommodation.
  • Develop individual accommodation plans, and individualized workplace emergency response information where needed, in consultation with the employee.
  • Take accessibility needs and any accommodation plan into account in performance management, career development, and redeployment.

6. Design of Public Spaces

If Synomos builds or makes major modifications to a public space, such as a client waiting area, we will do so in accordance with the accessibility standards for the design of public spaces under Ontario Regulation 191/11.

7. Multi-Year Accessibility Plan

Organizations with fewer than 50 employees are not required under Ontario Regulation 191/11 to maintain a multi-year accessibility plan. Synomos does not currently meet that threshold. We review this policy at least every five years.
